Kristine Thiemann – Scrobble
This exhibition presents “Scrobble”, a 9-square-meter structure, which is an interactive version of the world-famous word game “Scrabble”; it’s an over dimensioned modified version of the game, in which letters are replaced by photos and words by episodes.

Paolo Cappelletti is pleased to present Kristine Thiemann’s exhibition “Scrobble”.
A prolific German photographer based in Paris, Thiemann approaches photography with her own vocabulary, which is not only personal and innovative, but also highly witty and sparkling, as well as geometrically conducted.
This exhibition presents “Scrobble”, a 9-square-meter structure, which is an interactive version of the world-famous word game. In the words of Thiemann, this work is “an over dimensioned modified version of the game “Scrabble”, in which letters are replaced by photos and words by episodes.”
Just like in other Thiemann’s series (some of them are partially presented in this show, as well), what is mostly important is, as Kristine points out: “the ease and naivety combined with brutal reality. Already by choosing the themes and creating my pictures I try to avoid the necessity of an interpretation by the spectator. In the foreground of my work stands the black humor, the hidden and obvious detail, the most common daily routine, the expected surprise, but also actuality and social criticism. By the very moment of taking the picture the most crazy scene as well as the most banal situation becomes an eternal story, which you can watch again and again and experience always new things and emotions. This phenomenon of time, chance and coincidence is the main idea of my Scrobble.”
Kristine Thiemann was born in Hamburg in 1973. She graduated at APH, Akademie für Photographie Hamburg-Altona; she also studied in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Between 2001 and 2005 Thiemann was a freelance assistant to Michelangelo di Battista, Steven Klein, Peter Lindbergh, and Tom Munro. In 2005 she founded ktODS, a Studio Community in Paris. Her work has been exhibited in Germany, France and Italy.
