Julia Mastrogiacomo – The space between
Spero.

Segnala l'evento
Luca Vona
According to the artist "The Space in Between is the visual representation of the space between you and the other, between a decision and the following one. It figures the space of a step".
Her drawings show a preponderant abstract attitude which reveals the abandon of the renaissance perspective considered as contemplation of the subjugated nature from the window of a building.Julia paints a total pictorial space which perfectly mirrors her spiritual universe, without definite center, border and structure. The mystery of the "other" constitutes the pole of attraction and of infinite possibilities of the being expressed through free dynamic forms.
The artist interprets the white space of the sheet of paper and of the neuter background of the gallery as a listening place and a sensitive area for her pictorial intervention and installations. Her creative process dispossesses by any demiurgic attitude willing to form what is invisible and to catch as a photonegative the potentialities of an outwardly empty space. Slender graphical signs are traced on paper by rapid instinctive gestures following energetic streams made visible through the hand of the artist. So you can define her work by the same words used for Yves Bonnefoy's poetry, traversed by "a lacerating aggressive metaphysical curiosity which aims to break the secret of things". Her installations and video show the same emotional tension, whereas the heart shaped sculpture made by thorns recalls the dolorous experience of separation and of distance from a mystery which always transcends the forms of reality. Julia Mastrogiacomo proposes ethical and theological inquiries without any romantic temptation of confusing art and spirituality. Her faith conveys a human embracing aesthetic. It looks like her works materialize Simone Weil's words: "you have always to expect that things come according to gravity; unless an intervention of the supernatural".
