Nata a Buenos Aires nel 1962, Lucia vive e lavora a New York. Vincitrice nel 2006 del First Prize al “Palm Beach International Sculpture Biennale” le sue opere attualmente sono esposte a New York nelle vetrine di Macy's in occasione dell’evento “Synergy of art and fashion” .
“I’m motivated by the idea of exploring the individual and collective memory in modern urban society and how through discourse we build ourselves based in particular culture.
Memory, as a cultural device strengthening our sense of self and community, is fundamental of this construction.
In my installations, I use hard construction materials such as aircraft cable, wire and glass to evoke the urban scenery of large cities. I see in my work endless connections that like memories flow from present to past to present to future. Vestiges of human actions are revealed as result of cultural or aesthetic activities: language, sounds, and dreams.
My work deals with the feelings of strength and precariousness, displacements and transformations, the general dissolution of the borders between various spheres of life and dream that have deep consequences on the traditional understanding of reality. This psychological landscape reveal fluidity and sensuality, while referring to spatial indefinition and to mirrors. Very often the scale is undecipherable because there is no point of reference. This adds a lot of instability. The viewer can feel his/her own body could penetrate the installations whether they are big or small.
In my videos I am exploring the slowness of movement and how the viewer reacts to it. I use transparent marble that as on a magnetized field, attract, clash with and reject each other. The marbles create architectural spaces that are constantly changing. I use light also as medium to design space. The meditative action of glass spheres on a grey mirror-like surface and the range of hues between what shines and lacks light emphasize these two poles. Objects have already in them selves potential sound. We can think in architecture as an acoustic vessel that reverberates this sound. My glass spheres are at the same time objects and architecture”
