When Fancy Gets Sexy
Tre artisti americani emergenti
Comunicato stampa
Segnala l'evento
Temple University Rome is pleased to announce an exhibition featuring new work from three emerging American artists; Christopher Davison, Austin Heitzman, and Rebecca Saylor Sack. Working in a range of disciplines, including oil painting, photography, print and multi media constructions, these three artists are Master of Fine Arts candidates at Temple University Rome.
Christopher Davidson’s brightly colored, multi-layered fabric works combine relief prints with drawn and painted material. Constructed through a system of accumulation, cutting and sewing, Davidson creates complex psychological narratives depicting figures in landscapes of impending disintegration and suggestive of violence. Christopher Davidson is a first year MFA candidate, in printmaking.
Austin Heitzman’s work examines the icon of the American Cowboy. Working with poses appropriated from Italian western Comic books, Heitzman juxtaposes intimate batter fried paintings with fetishistic high-gloss enamel painted photographs. His work engages and examines notions of image, American commercial culture and fantasy. Austin Heitzman is a first year MFA candidate, in painting.
Rebecca Saylor Sack creates large-scale oil paintings on canvas. Juxtaposing intricate painterly surfaces and a bombastic palette, she depicts a landscape that is at once under construction or excavation. Sack’s paintings assert themselves as images, yet exist as unstable fields of action, straddling abstraction and landscape. Rebecca Saylor Sack is a Jacob K. Javits Fellow, and a third year MFA candidate in painting.
