La mostra è dedicata al tema del focus quale filo conduttore della scultura, della fotografia e della pittura di queste tre artiste che evoca la scintilla stessa della vita, l’origine della luce, la fonte del calore, della sicurezza e della crescita così come della distruzione.

Venute da esperienze e luoghi lontani le tre artiste si incontrano a Roma, intorno ad un camino…tre Sorores intorno ad un fuoco. Donne che ricordano anche le sacerdotesse di Vesta, l’antica dea del focolare, il cui compito era di mantenere vivo il fuoco, fulcro della casa e continuazione della vita al suo interno.

Grazie ai rapporti creati tra forma, luce, colore, e anche attraverso le diverse modalità di vivere e costruire un dialogo, questo luogo diviene un posto dove la percezione dello spazio vissuto, il significato e il tempo delle cose si fa più acuta e inquieta, un'architettura dialogata, un piano percettivo che ci impegna all’incontro ed a disporci in sintonia con altre esperienze.

CAROLYN ANGUS nasce in Scozia e studia scultura alla Glasgow School of Art. Trasferitasi negli Stati Uniti, consegue un Master in Fine Art alla Tyler School of Art, Temple University, Philadelphia. Ha vissuto e lavorato come artista e insegnante di materie artistiche negli Stati Uniti, nel Regno Unito e nelle Filippine. Da sei anni vive e risiede a Roma. I suoi lavori sono stati esposti in un ex-presbiterio in Finlandia, in una Chiesa Anglicana a Sheffield, in una biblioteca pubblica e in un Cimitero Comunale del Regno Unito.

SUSAN KAMMERER si è trasferita a Roma nel 1977. Ha frequentato la Tyler School of Art a Roma, conseguendo la laurea di Bachelor of Fine Art nel 1980. Ha completato il suo Master of Fine Art a Villa Schifanoia in Firenze nel 1983. In Italia espone le sue opere fotografiche e installazioni dal 2007.

NINA EATON é un’ artista che vive e pratica a Roma da circa venti anni. E’ nata nel midwest degli Stati Uniti, e ha studiato alla School of the Art Institute of Chicago e il Minneapolis College of Art and Design (Bachelor of Fine Arts 1987). I suoi dipinti e Trompe L’oeil si trovano sulle pareti di posti illustri ed umili, da Palazzo Taverna e Palazzo Chigi, a residenze private e trattorie. Da Roma a Manhattan, passando per Chicago e Washington, i suoi interventi decorativi realizzati in collaborazione con architetti e interior designers sono documentati in publicazzioni come Architectural Digest, AD, Elle Decor, e vari libri sullo stile Italiano.

This exhibition is dedicated to the theme of “focus”, uniting the site-specific sculpture, photography and painting of these three artists, evoking the divine spark of life itself, the origin of light, the source of warmth and security and growth, and even of destruction.

These artists from different places and experiences, are brought together here in Rome through the universal though difficult language of visual art … three Sorores by the fire. They also could remind us of the priestesses of Vesta, ancient Goddess of the hearth, whose job it was to keep the fire alight, focal point of the home and continuing life therein.

Thanks to the relationships between form, light and color, and through the different ways of living and building dialogue, this becomes a meeting point where perception of lived space, the meaning and the age of things becomes more acute and restless, a place shaped by dialogue, a perceptual completeness drawing us in and releasing us into the harmony of new experience.

CAROLYN ANGUS was born in Scotland and studied sculpture at The Glasgow School of Art. She has lived and worked as an artist and art educator in the USA, UK and The Philippines. For the last six years has been based in Rome. She has exhibited in a Former Manse in Finland, an Anglican Church in Sheffield, a Public Library as well as a Council Cemetery in the UK.

SUSAN KAMMERER was born in New York City and she moved to Rome in 1977. In 1980 she completed her Bachelor of Fine Art at Tyler School of Art in Rome and in 1983 finished her Master of Fine Art at the Villa Schifanoia in Florence. In Italy she has been exhibiting only photographs and installation since 2007.

NINA EATON is an artist who has lived and practiced most of her professional and expressive life in Rome. She is from the mid-western United States, where she studied art at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, and the Minneapolis College of Art and Design (Bachelor of Fine Arts 1987). Inspired by Chicago muralists and Roman palazzi she began a dialogue with architecture that has continued for twenty years. Her murals, based on european Trompe L'oeil and fresco traditions are located throughout Italy: Palazzo Chigi and Villa Taverna in Rome; and the U.S.: Manhattan's upper east side and Chicago's Lincoln Park. Her work has been published in Architectural Digest, AD, Elle Decor, and included in books on Italian Decor.
