-------- English
"Striving for peace is a human condition, in both personal and global spheres. I wish to convey through my practice, a feeling of stillness, calm, comfort, satisfaction, peace, a sense of belonging, a feeling of home; a blue jungle that is lit from within and radiates light to the outer world. Each thrown ceramic piece alludes to a species of flora, but at the same time, it is evident that it is made by human hands. This is a reflection of my inner world, an escape from reality, a retreat, a place to rest.
When one enters this blue, calming space, they are completely immersed in an inner world: surrounded by blue plants, blue paint under their feet and blue fabric above their heads.
The practice of pottery: to center, to pull and twist, to create objects out of lumps of mud, that slips under my fingers brings peace. Pottery centres the soul. This installation of ceramic lamps is the result of my practice of centring.
May our love for art and art making bring us all to our quiet place." - Averi Biswas
Averi Biswas was born and raised in India, originally a painter, but is now extending her boundaries to three dimensional mediums, specifically ceramics. She always wished she could invite people into her paintings, and now she has found a way through ceramics and the use of light and darkness.
WORK(IN)SPACE is a series of exhibition projects by SACI 2nd-Year MFA in Studio Art candidates, as part of the Professional Practicum Seminar. Students work directly in SACI's Maidoff Gallery to critically engage with the challenges offered by preparing an exhibition. Each week, a new opening presents a coherent body of work of the artists. Working one-on-one with SACI Instructors Daria Filardo and Pietro Gaglianò, students step outside of their studio environment to rethink their work in an exhibition setting, learning to consider all the aspects, limitations, and needs of the given space to achieve the best final result.
WORK(IN)SPACE is held in SACI’s Maidoff Gallery and includes all phases of the exhibition, from the planning to the installation and opening of the show.
