To coincide with the publication of the first complete catalogue raisonné of Ribera’s drawings, co-published by Fundación Focus and the Meadows Museum, from November this year to February 2017 the Museo del Prado will be presenting an exhibition that aims to reveal the variety of Ribera’s drawings, his technical skill and the remarkable originality of his subject matter.
Among the approximately 50 drawings to be included in the exhibition are the exquisite Risen Christ appearing to the Virgin from the Kent History and Library Centre; Achilles among the Daughters of Lycomedes from the Teylers Museum in Haarlem; and Hercules at rest from Malta (a drawing not previously exhibited in Spain). Shown alongside ten paintings and a small group of etchings and engravings, the works in the exhibition have been loaned by American and European institutions and private collections.
