Scott Reeder

Comunicato stampa
Segnala l'evento
Insegna dal 1993 alla -The School of the Art Institute of Chicago-, forse la scuola d'arte piu' importante degli Stati Uniti.
"Small Painting Show" Ulrich Museum - Wichita, Bumper Sticker Project" Wrong Gallery - New York.
--------------English Version
With irreverent humor and essential images Scott Reeder represents an apparently puerile, superficial world. Nevertheless, the way the artist approaches certain themes offers a glimpse of the complexity of his humor. There are parallels between the apparent ease of his painting and the themes themselves. At times the images are bare, as if emptied, or with only a single central subject, and the bright colors point to an elementary use of the medium. Reeder is perfectly aware of the fact that simplicity is always complicated to find, and perhaps this is why his paintings refuse to take life too seriously, transforming it into a show, into entertainment.
The subjects, instead of being powerful, are often simple, like helpless toys lying on the ground, or still lifes composed of one or more objects. Many of the paintings show objects with intense, luminous colors, like those of Pierre Bonnard or Milton Avery, but always with a satirical tone that drifts in the direction of the work of Duchamp. The choice of subjects is innocuous, conveying an illusion of simplicity, perhaps the expression of a total uncertainty in life. The true force, then, becomes the color, that seems to have been taken from a child's pencil box, giving the painting a gestural quality.
Scott Reeder was born in 1970 in Milwaukee, and lives and works in Chicago. Since 1993 he has taught at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, one of the most important art schools in the United States.
He has recently had a solo show at the Daniel Reich Gallery of New York, which represents him.
Important exhibitions include shows at Gavin Brown's Enterprise - NY, Gavlak Projects - Palm Beach, Jack Hanley - San Francisco, Midway Contemporary Art - Minneapolis, Museum of Contemporary Art - Chicago, Tate Modern - London, Milwaukee Art Museum - Wisconsin.
Reeder has also done many projects as a curator, including Dark Fair Cologne, Kolnischer Kunstverein, Cologne, Germany; Dark Fair, the Swiss Institute, New York; Small Painting Show, Ulrich Museum, Wichita; Bumper Sticker Project, Wrong Gallery, New York.
