Wayne Stoner – A Moment in Time

Segnala l'evento

Wayne worked in the military for many years and then had a complete change of direction to dedicate his time toward helping others and pursuing a career in art. The transition has taken place over time, but specifically evolved during his final year in the MFA Program here in Florence. This time is not the fleeting moments of light and shadow that he now chases for inspiration. This show proposes an investigation on the idea of images that spark from reality in a moment of time that translate pictorially in abstraction, thus finding the abstract in everyday reality. The works presented are a cohesive body that evolved from this observation and reflection process, marking time and creating paintings that create a moment in time for the veiwer.
Wayne explains his artistic process, “I work from imagery connected to my experiences and memory, often observing and recording a simple moment in time to kickstart an intuitive process that works in painting, and mixed/multi-media from general to specific, refining by adding and subtracting. I tend to respond to my surroundings and mimic colors and seasons. I consider my work finished but only when viewed is it truly complete. I aim for an ambiguous outcome that allows the viewers to arrive at their own conclusions.”
WORK(IN)SPACE is a series of exhibition projects by SACI 2nd-Year MFA Candidates in Studio Art, as part of the Professional Practicum Seminar. Students work directly with SACI's Maidoff Gallery to critically engage with the challenges offered by preparing an exhibition. Each week a new opening presents a coherent body of work of the artists. Working in a one-to-one relationship with SACI Instructors Daria Filardo and Pietro Gaglianò, students step outside of their studio environment to rethink their work in an exhibition setting, learning to consider all the aspects, limitations and needs of the given space to achieve the best final result.
